Computed Tomography (CT & CTA Scanning)
Windsong has four convenient locations in the Western New York region where we offer CT scans. All four locations have the ACR Accreditation Gold Seal for Computed Tomography. Windsong was the first imaging facility in Buffalo to offer state-of-the-art 128 Slice CT scans.
- Williamsville—55 Spindrift Drive
- Hamburg—4855 Camp Road
- Lancaster—4893 Transit Road, Depew
- Amherst—3950 East Robinson Road, W. Amherst
Windsong’s fellowship trained radiologists work side by side with our certified and highly trained CT technologists to determine the protocol that will deliver the lowest optimal radiation dose that is customized for each patient’s body habitus. Windsong was the first outpatient imaging facility in WNY to form a CT Radiation Dose Reduction Committee composed of radiologists, technologists, and health physicists whose mission is to ensure radiation safety and low dose to the patient.
CT for Children
Windsong also tailors CT protocols for children to be fast with no extraneous radiation.
Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA)*
A (CCTA) is a CT exam which determines if plaque buildup has narrowed a patient’s coronary arteries, the critical blood vessels that supply blood to the heart. Plaque is made up of substances such as fat, cholesterol and calcium. If deposited along the inner lining of the arteries over time, plaque buildup can reduce or completely block blood flow to the heart. This test is still not routinely covered by many insurance plans and may require out-of-pocket costs.
What to Expect with a CCTA
When patients undergo a CCTA scan they receive an iodine-containing contrast material (dye) through an (IV) or intravenous injection. This provides the best possible images of the heart blood vessels.
Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring*
Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring is used as a screening tool to detect the presence of coronary artery disease at an early stage, when symptoms may not be present. Calcium scoring uses a non-invasive, high-speed CT to scan the heart and measure the total load of calcified or hardened plaque in the coronary arteries. More coronary calcium means more coronary atheroscleosis, which may be suggestive of a significant narrowing somewhere in the coronary system and a higher risk of future cardiovascular events. This test is still not routinely covered by many insurance plans and may require out-of-pocket costs.
What to Expect with a Cardiac CT
A Cardiac CT is a painless exam and it requires no advance preparation. It does not involve any injection or medication.
Non-invasive Virtual Colonoscopy*
Non-invasive Virtual Colonoscopy is a specialty exam offered with a high level of expertise at Windsong.
