Treatments
VenaSeal™ Closure System
The VenaSeal™ procedure is an FDA-approved venous closure treatment that uses adhesive to close the diseased vein. VenaSeal is typically covered by insurance, however, we recommend verifying your individual coverage with your insurance plan.
VenaSeal™ benefits include:
- No compression stockings are needed after the treatment
- Only one needle stick required
- Patients may resume activities shortly after treatment
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
RFA is a vein closure treatment typically covered by most insurance. A small catheter is inserted into the vein and heat is delivered into the vein wall, which then seals and closes the vein. Following this procedure, a patient must limit their activities for a few days and wear compression stockings. Walking is encouraged immediately following the procedure.

Varicose veins are often raised above the skin on legs and can resemble twisted, bulging cords. Left untreated, they can progress to a more serious form of venous disease called chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Increased pressure leads to further damage of additional veins. CVI can cause swelling and achiness even without varicose veins.
Common signs can include:
- Heaviness, swelling or fatigue
- Aching, cramping or leg pain
- Varicose veins or spider veins
- Skin changes or rashes
- Ulcers, open wounds or sores
- Restless legs
After varicose vein treatment, patients report relief from throbbing legs and heaviness. Having the ability to walk without a struggle is an often-reported result. Treatment can also assist with healing of venous stasis ulcers. The best advantage of this short, in-office procedure is that there is no hospitalization or bed rest required. CVI can affect anyone, though gender and age are factors that may increase your risk. For example, women older than 50 are more likely than others to develop venous disease that can lead to CVI.
Other factors that may increase your risk include:
- Family history
- Pregnancy
- Standing profession
- Obesity
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Smoking
Our dedicated team will work with you to customize a treatment plan and ensure maximum potential for insurance coverage. During your first visit, we’ll perform the initial vein mapping, you’ll consult with one of our sub-specialized physicians, and receive a diagnosis and treatment plan before you leave.
You will remain awake during the procedure. The area of the leg affected will be numbed with a local anesthetic before a small catheter is inserted. The physician will use a laser to close the impaired vein, naturally rerouting blood to surrounding healthy veins instead.
You must wear compression stockings for the first 24 hours to encourage healing and decrease swelling. After 24 hours, you may remove the stockings to sleep; however, they must be worn at all other times over the course of two weeks. You may resume normal activity after the procedure, but no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for two weeks. If you experience any discomfort, you may take Tylenol or ibuprofen. Soreness generally disappears after 24 hours, although mild soreness may last 7-10 days.
Our vein services coordinator will help schedule appointments and obtain insurance approvals. It will be necessary to purchase prescription-strength compression stockings (do this a week prior to ensure you have them in time!). Shower and wash your legs thoroughly on the day of the procedure. Do NOT apply lotion, cream or powder. Bring loose fitting pants to wear after the procedure.
