Windsong has announced in the 2012 Health Care Guide to the Buffalo Business First on Friday July 27th that they will be offering free Low Dose Chest CT scans to screen for Lung Cancer if the person meets a specific criteria for a limited time. People between the ages of 55 -74 and have a history of 30 pack-years of smoking, and continue to smoke or have quit within the last 15 years are eligible for the screening. The recommendations for screening have been established by the American Lung Association based upon large clinical trails in which a 20% relative reduction of lung cancer mortality using Low-Dose CT screening for lung cancer compared to a chest X-ray was demonstrated.
Additional information can be found on the Windsong web site. A Physician's prescription or referral is necessary to have this screening test performed.
