Uterine Fibroid Embolization
Freedom from Fibroids
Uterine Fibroids affect between 25-40% of American women. While not life-threatening, fibroids can cause significant discomfort and heavy menstrual bleeding. Fortunately, hysterectomy is no longer the only option. Windsong’ Radiology’s interventional radiologists can perform a minimally invasive procedure called Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) that can provide significant and lasting symptomatic relief without compromising fertility.
Symptoms
Uterine fibroid symptoms include heavy, prolonged menstrual periods, pelvic pain, pressure or heaviness, lower back or leg pain, pain during sexual intercourse, bladder pressure, constipation and frequent urination.
Diagnosis
Uterine fibroids are diagnosed through pelvic exam and ultrasound.
Treatment
Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat uterine fibroids. Under image guidance, interventional radiologists use a small catheter to release tiny particles into the uterine arteries, blocking blood supply to the fibroids. This causes the fibroid to shrink and offers relief from symptoms. UFE is a welcome alternative to surgeries like hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) and myomectomy (surgical removal of individual fibroids).

Your insurance card must be presented at your appointment, and a co-pay may be due, depending on the requirements of your insurance provider. Windsong will verify insurance coverage and benefits; however, specific questions regarding your policy and coverage should be directed to your insurance carrier, as insurance plans and benefits vary widely.
