Job Summary
Responsible for monitoring patients during radiology treatments and ensuring the patient’s comfort while educating them on invasive radiology procedures. Assists radiologists during procedures. Duties include conscious sedation, in which the nurse, working under a physician’s direction and supervision, administers sedation and analgesics to the patient to achieve a mildly depressed state of consciousness. Also responsible for assessing the nursing needs and initiating appropriate intervention for patients contributing to the efficient operation of the department, as well as ensuring quality and continuity of patient care.
Essential Functions
- Patient Care
- Professional, positive and caring attitude throughout entire patient encounter.
- Work with and assist a wide range of individuals in a variety of situations.
- Listening to and resolving patient questions, comments and concerns.
- Provide comprehensive patient assessment and documentation.
- Evaluate, provide and maintain narcotic sedation to patients, based on company policy.
- Assess and treat emergency situations including life threatening contrast reactions.
- Evaluate patient status when transferred from other facilities.
- IV Administration
- Provide venous access and injection for intravenous contrast media.
- Administer IM and IV injections of contrast/tracer medications.
- Maintain clean, organized exam room and work area.
- Organize company training session for IV injections.
- Ensure proper safety and infectious control procedures are followed, based on company policy.
- Order and maintain all supplies needed for emergency crash carts.
- Communication Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their family members, team members, supervisors, managers, Radiologists and referring Physicians.
- Establish and maintain good rapport and a positive attitude towards all other departments, patients and referring physicians.
- Communicates relevant patient assessment information to Radiologists.
- Primary contact for patients from assisted living or nursing home facilities; and those who may be incapacitated and accompanied by third party representative.
- Document physician/nursing interventions, patient response and follow up.
- Radiology Procedures
- Assist and support physicians during all interventional radiology procedures as needed.
- Collaborates with interdepartmental members to administer patient care and implement changes; provides ongoing assistance as schedule permits.
- Administrative
- Inventory and order all medication for clinical departments.
- Perform all related computer tasks (PACS and RIS tracking).
- Assist in OSHA compliance support within company guidelines under direction of Human Resources Manager. Including, but not limited to,
- Tracking inventory of crash cart and oxygen supplies.
- Administering annual PPDs to physicians and staff.
- Organizing annual staff flu vaccine program.
- Tracking and organizing CPR class, as needed.
- Respond to, track and follow up with patients injured at facility, during work hours.
- Understand and adhere to all department Policy & Procedure Manuals.
- Maintain clean, organized and safe exam area and control room.
- Immediately notify department manager of any problems relating to safety, equipment or patients.
- Adhere to and uphold all HIPAA and New York State regulations regarding patient privacy as well as standards of ethics set forth by Windsong.

Qualifications
- Valid license and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Hold and maintain valid ACLS certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years professional experience in RN role, including two (2) years experience in an interventional radiology department or vascular surgery.
- Strong IV Skills, including handling patient ports.
- Strong knowledge of applicable patient preparation and procedures in radiology office and/or ambulatory surgical care setting.
- Experience with patient teaching and phone triage experience.
- Experience and ability to assist and support physicians with radiologic procedures as required.
- Able to stand on feet for extended period of time.
- Basic Lifting as required, not to exceed 35 pounds.
