Job Title: Genetic Assistant

Location: Williamsville, NY
Responsible for providing clinical and clerical support to the Genetic Counselor. Assist with preparing patients for the consultation, testing and follow up when necessary. Function as a liaison between patients, Genetic Counselor and Referring Providers.
Prepare patient records for genetic cancer screening
Complete paperwork for pre-authorization for patients for genetic testing
Work closely with various laboratories during the pre-authorization process
Assist with the preparation of documentation for the test processing
Safely handle the samples collected (blood or saliva) to ensure packaged and shipped properly.
Collect medical and family history, enter into the EMR and Genetic program prior to the patient’s appointment.
Formulate patient result letters utilizing the templates provided in the EMR.
Keep the testing kits stocked at an appropriate level.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
All other temporary and/or permanent duties as assigned by Administrator or Manager.
High school diploma.
Minimum of one-year healthcare experience.
Knowledge and experience utilizing Excel spreadsheets.
Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.
Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
Plan, organize, prioritize and direct the work of others.
Excellent customer service, verbal and written communications skills.
Basic lifting as required, not to exceed 25 pounds.
Must be able to stand; sit; walk for extended periods of time with the ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail.
Position is in a well-lighted, fast-paced, clean medical office environment.
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with the essential job functions such as stationary, mobility, operating machinery, convey and exchange information, identify, observe and /or positioning of patients.
Manual dexterity to operate standard office machines/equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line phones, photocopiers, fax systems and calculators. Stress can be triggered by multiple staff demands and deadlines.
