Breast Patient Navigators

Windsong Breast Care provides Certified Breast Patient Navigators (C-BPN) to assist breast cancer patients with scheduling and coordinating appointments, answering questions, coordinating referrals and anticipating needs.

The navigators facilitate a bi-weekly question-and-answer session for newly diagnosed patients and a family member.  Patients will meet with our panel of experts, consisting of members of the treament team – Radiologist, Surgeon, Medical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Nutritionist, Physical Therapist, Counselor, etc. This provides an open line of communication for the patients and families to begin the journey to survivorship.

The Breast Patient Navigators have experience in radiology with a special focus on women’s imaging, breast health and breast disease. They assist patients throughout the continuum of breast cancer care and enhance the patients quality of life, sense of autonomy and self determination for managing their own health. In addition, they meet with the newly diagnosed patient and provide them with a survivorship care plan with details on how to utilize the plan for their maximum benefit.

In October 2016, Windsong Breast Care applied for and received a grant to expand services for underserved women, regardless of their insurance status, to provide navigation services to assist patients with obtaining their screening mammograms. The project came about as part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statewide initiative  to:

1) Increase NY’s breast screening rate by 10% over the next 5 years, and

2) Increase the number of women screened and improve breast cancer screening and diagnostic follow-up

A dedicated Breast Patient Navigator was hired as a result to facilitate this initiative.  She can be reached at 716-631-2500, ext. 2325
