Board Certified Pathologists at Catholic Health’s X-Cell Laboratories of Western New York and Kaleida Health receive, process, review and report on the initial tissue samples obtained during the breast or lymph node biopsy. At the time of surgery, the Pathologists will assist the surgeon by evaluating the tissue for margins and lymph node involvement. In addition, the complete sample is evaluated for tissue type, hormone receptors, and gene mutation. They follow all the CAP guidelines for cancer reporting and provide the Surgeon with the most accurate information to assist in determining the individual breast cancer. The report provides diagnostic information about the type of cancer, the grade and hormone receptor status. At each Multidisciplinary Conference a pathologist presents the slides from the current cases.
