WILLIAMSVILLE – September 9, 2016 – Windsong, PC recently received re-accreditation from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. (AAAASF) After many weeks of review Windsong’s the AAAASF inspector found no deficiencies in the Interventional Radiology Department located at 55 Spindrift Drive in Williamsville, NY.
The three year reaccreditation through AAAASF is a strong symbol of quality. “Windsong continues to set the highest standards for interventional procedures requiring conscious sedation,” says Tammy Day, Manager of the Interventional Services Program. “Our Interventional services have grown significantly over the last few years, and we believe the certification is extremely important to ensure the very best care for our patients.”
“This accreditation allows patients to comfortably undergo procedures such as kyphoplasty (vertebral augmentation) and fibroid embolization under conscious sedation in an out-patient setting,” adds Dr. Dana Dunleavy, Director of Interventional Services. “Same stringent standards as you would find in a hospital, but in an atmosphere focused on comfort, service and safety,” he added.
AAAASF was established in 1980 to standardize and improve the quality of health care in outpatient facilities. AAAASF accredits thousands of facilities world-wide, making it one of the largest not-for-profit outpatient accrediting organizations. Physicians, clinicians, legislators, state/federal health agencies and patients acknowledge that AAAASF sets the "Gold Standard in Accreditation" through the following ways:
- holds outpatient and office-based facilities to hospital standards
- requires surgeons to be board certified and have hospital privileges for any procedure they perform
- Allows procedures to be performed under conscious sedation in a safe environment
- requires a safe and clean surgical environment that meets stringent standards
- requires peer review (peer oversight) and tracks data for thousands of individual cases
“In addition to the high standards, it’s typically at a much lower cost than the same procedure performed in a hospital setting,” says Dr. Thomas Summers, President of Windsong. “We’ve worked with our local referring physicians and insurance carriers to educate them about the advantages and contain expenses to the health care system without having a negative effect on quality. It’s a delicate balance and it demands our attention on a daily basis.”
